Juniper Lane in the studio (part deux)

I'm back in DC and I just finished up the photos from yesterday and posted them to Flickr.

You can view them here! These photos mostly feature Eddie, but Ted and Viv were also there and even Chris makes an appearance.

Overall, my experience in the studio was really fantastic. Sure, parts are boring, I pretty much listened to the same three songs over and over for 2 days (except for when I managed to have Alicia Keys stuck in my head/Eddie and I had Viv and Ted watching Dr. Horrible's Sing-along Blog), and I didn't get nearly enough sleep - but none of that really seemed all that important. I was lucky to be at the studio for the part where the songs come together; when a back-up vocal or another small touch is added and you can see how that's going to make the song stronger and better.

Thank you to Eddie and Viv, and especially to Ted for his hospitality. I hope I will have the chance to do it again sometime.

Juniper Lane in the studio

And Eddie says: "You can do it like a professional with ProCaulk". Viv says: "It will help you get into those hard-to-reach places."

Now that that's out of the way, I'm down here in Raleigh, North Carolina with Viv and Eddie working on 3 new songs. They've played one of them live at a few shows, when it was called The Battle of Franklin. The name will be changing as the lyrics have evolved, but it's a great song.

Currently we're waiting to hear some rough mixes of the three songs and then Viv might do another few passes at the vocals, and then Eddie's got some more vocals and perhaps a bit of percussion, then back to DC. Ted's in the studio now working on the mixes.

If you'd like to see some behind-the-scenes studio action, I've posted some photos from yesterday at flickr here. I'm taking more today as well!

OK, it's been a bit of a whirlwind since the Coldplay show so I have yet to update wakefromyourself.com - but I am getting there.

In the meantime, you can check out the photos from the Verizon Center and from the McGinty's show.

Some Coldplay related press

Lots of Juniper Lane shout-outs after the Coldplay contest results were announced. Check it out:

In case you're not on On Tap Magazine's Live Wire mailing list, the band got a nod from the Editors back on July 24:

The month of July has been a good one for local rock band Juniper Lane. First they were featured in On Tap as our Bud Light Band of the month, which includes having a track on our annual compilation CD (coming out in January). This week the took another huge step, beating out a slew of other bands in an online contest to open for Coldplay at Verizon Center on Aug. 3rd. At this rate, next time around they'll be the headliners. If you don't have tickets for the Cold Play show, you can catch them on Aug. 15th at McGinty's Public House in Silver Spring.

Of course, there's a lot of shout-outs for the event listing itself. Here's one from the Washington Post Express Night Out website.

MANY FANS OF Coldplay have had a singular complaint up to this point: it all sounds the same. From the moment "Yellow" hooked us, through two more albums, Chris Martin and company haven't evolved as we would have liked.

Until now, that is.

Coldplay's fourth, and according to most critics, best album, "Viva la Vida or Death and All of His Friends," shows more edge and more energy from the band than ever before.

You can catch them at the Verizon Center this Sunday. Joining the big-timers are up-and-coming vocalist Santogold, and a local band that was picked via Internet vote. Indie-popsters Juniper Lane are the lucky winners.

Let's go back a bit and check out some blog praise, endorsements, and the like!

Metro Music Scene gave some congrats to the band over here.

As did Elliot in the Morning Fans right over here.

Feeling the love yet? FamousDC got in on the act too.

Perhaps the greatest endorsement ever? Here's one from The DCeiver:

Coldplay is coming to DC and Amanda will be liveblogging it, for some reason. So give her something to show up early for! Vote for Juniper Lane to be the opening act of the show, because they are friends of friends and are a great band and their lead singer has even FACED DOWN DEATH ITSELF.

And finally, WeLoveDC's endorsement.

That's a lot of links. I'm going to try to post everything I see over the next few days, but feel free to comment with a link you think I might have missed.

See you on Sunday?!
